I am a final year B.Tech student in Information Technology and I have been a part of many technical clubs and communities at my College. In this article, I will share my experience about how these clubs helped me in overall development of my personality and why you should join one?

I started off as a junior associate at Computer Society of India student branch and then served as the Vice-President of the club next year. I also worked with Google Developer Student Clubs as a Mobile Dev Team member and now I am the Lead of the club.

For anyone new to this, every college has their own technical socities and clubs and there are student chapters of national and international organisations as well. The core teams of these clubs organise various informative sessions, workshops, competitions, hackathons etc…

And being a core member means you are involved at the backend of all these events. Most of the clubs recruit new members once a year. The selection procedure differs with each club but more or less it involves the application and the personal interview stage.

As a part of Computer Society of India, I got to interact closely with talented seniors of my college and network with a lot of people. As a core team member, I also got the opportunity to become a speaker and take a live workshop. Speaking in front of a lot of people also gave me much required confidence that was helpful in interviews later on. Being involved in the planning of various sessions also improved my technical knowledge.

As a part of Mobile Team at Developer Student Clubs, we collectively worked on a mobile application that I even showcased on my resume as a team project. And being the lead, I am already managing the entire team which improves my leadership skills. As the lead of Google Developer Clubs, I have also collborated with clubs of nearby colleges and networked with leads from all over India.

So anyone in second or third year of college reading this, do participate actively in your college clubs. It will develop all the soft skills you will require for your job later starting from technical skills to communication, teamwork, confidence, time management and it will give you opportunities work with your seniors, peers and juniors as well. Grab all the opportunities that come your way and make your college life more fruitful.

I hope you found the article useful. Do share your experiences in the comments and let the readers know what wonders have college clubs done for students. Stay tuned for more such interesting articles :)
